The late Haj Mirza Jawad Maleki Tabrizi – the famous and well-known gnostic and the great Islamic jurisprudent – says in his book “Al-Muraqibat” that fasting is a divine gift that Allah – the Exalted – has bestowed upon the believers and His servants. Haj Mirza Tabrizi says, ‘Fasting is not an obligation, rather it is an honor for which we must be thankful to Allah.’
